Connect a receipt printer and cash drawer
Connect a Star receipt printer by USB, run a test print and open the cash drawer.
You can connect a Star Micronics receipt printer by USB from Dineout Partner. The printer can also open a cash drawer.
The printer you choose is remembered by the browser on this computer. If you use another computer or browser, set it up there too.
Connect the printer
Plug in the printer
Connect the Star printer to your computer with a USB cable and switch it on.
Open Printers
In Settings, open Integrations, then Printers. You see Star receipt printer (USB).
Click Select printer
Click Select printer. Your browser opens a window to choose a device. Choose your Star printer.
Check the status
Dineout checks the printer straight away. The label at the top shows Connected, Checking…, Error or No printer.
If you close the browser window without choosing a printer, you see "Printer selection was cancelled." Click Select printer and try again.
Test the printer and the cash drawer
- Click Test Print to print a test receipt. You see "Test Print completed successfully." when it works.
- Click Test Drawer to open the cash drawer. You see "Open Drawer completed successfully."
- Click the reload icon (Reload printer status) to check the printer again.
The Test Drawer button says Printer not connected and is greyed out when the printer doesn't report a cash drawer connected to it.
Test the printer and the drawer separately.
Remove or change the printer
Click Remove to forget the printer. Then click Select printer to choose another one.
If something goes wrong
Dineout shows a message and a "Next step" under the test buttons. Common ones:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| The printer reported a device error. | Check the printer for a hardware problem, then try again. |
| The printer is holding paper and cannot continue. | Clear the held paper, load the paper roll and run Test Print again. |
| Printing timed out before the printer completed the command. | Check the USB cable and that the printer is ready, then try again. |
| USB is unavailable for printer communication. | Plug the USB cable in again and click Select printer again. |
| Required browser worker support is unavailable. | Reload the page, or use Chrome. See Which browser to use. |
For other messages, follow the "Next step" under the message. If it keeps happening, see Something isn't working.
