Take orders and payments in the POS app

Add items to an order on the POS tablet, send them to the kitchen, and take payment in checkout.

The POS app is the till on your tablet. You open an order, add items, send them to the kitchen or bar, and take payment.

Find or start an order

The Dashboard is the home screen. It shows your tables and your orders.

  • Orders are listed under Open orders and Completed orders. Use the date button to look at another day.
  • Table colours show the status: Active, Receipt Printed, and the payment status Unpaid / Open, Partially paid and Paid / Closed.
  • If you have set Inactivity minutes in POS settings, a table with an order that hasn't been touched for that long is marked as inactive.

Send items to the kitchen

In an order, add items from the menu. You can also use Search items to find one.

The button at the bottom of the order sidebar shows Update State when there are lines that haven't been printed. Tap it to print them to the kitchen or bar printers. When everything is printed it says Updated. After a successful update the app goes back to the Dashboard.

Items sent to the kitchen can't be deleted by staff with the Staff role. See Sign in to the POS app with your staff PIN.

The three-dot menu (More actions) in an order has more options, including:

Take payment

Go to checkout

Tap Checkout. The screen shows Selected, Unpaid and Paid.

Choose how to pay

Each payment source you have turned on in POS settings is a row with an Amount field. Tap the name of a source to put the selected amount in its field, or type an amount. The total shows as Selected amount. Then tap Pay. For a card terminal, tap the card button on its row, which shows the amount. For a gift card, tap Gift card code. For a clip card, tap Clip card code.

Complete the order

When Unpaid is zero, open More actions and tap Complete (or Update for an existing order). A window called Complete Order lets you print a receipt (Complete & Print), send it by email (Complete & send), or just complete. If Skip complete step in checkout is on in POS settings, this window is skipped.

You can pay in parts, for example half in cash and half by card. For several guests at the table, use Split bill in More actions. You can also choose Discount bill or Discount selected there.

If a cash payment is more than the amount due, the app shows Return with the change. After you confirm, a Return cash window tells you the amount to give back.

If a gift card or clip card is on the order, the app asks for an email to send the card codes to.

If a kitchen printer fails, a window says Kitchen printer failed. Tap Retry Print, or Complete without printing to mark the lines as printed without a ticket.

If a card payment went through but did not reach the order, a message says the card was charged and not to charge the guest again. Tap Add payment to add it by hand, or Dismiss.

Fix a payment

In More actions in checkout:

  • Undo payment(s): pick a payment and tap Undo payment. You can't undo card (POS) payments.
  • Refund payment(s): pick a payment, tick the items, and tap Refund with the number of items. For card payments you can also tap Void with the number of items.
  • Credit note: creates a copy of the order with negative amounts. Credit note and duplicate order also makes a new copy you can edit.
