POS settings

Choose which payment sources the POS offers and what they are called, set up settlements, printing and order alerts, and review the audit log.

POS Settings control how your POS works. The page has two tabs: Settings and Audit log.

Click the save button at the top of the page after you change something. A message says Successfully saved POS UI settings.

Several sections are hidden for companies that sell services. They are marked below. Staff PIN codes are set up elsewhere. See Create staff PIN codes in the Settings section.

Payment sources

Under Payment sources, each payment source has an Alias and an Enabled switch. The alias is the name your staff and your reports use. If you leave it empty for an enabled source, the page won't save.

Payment sourceWhat it is for
POSPayments with payment terminals. Always on.
CashCash payments. Always on.
Gift cardPayments with gift cards.
Manual gift cardAdd a gift card payment without a gift card. Mainly for tablets.
Clip cardPayments with Clip cards.

OtherOther types of payments.

Only enabled sources show up as payment options in the POS.

Settlement options

Under Settlement:

  • Sale can be specified/adjusted before a settlement is made: adds a step in the Z report where staff enter the real sale or an adjustment for each payment source.
  • Tips can be specified/adjusted before a settlement is made: adds a step for POS tips and cash tips.

See End of day: Z-settlement.

Order alerts and display

Under Miscellaneous:

  • UI Mode: choose Default or Bar.
  • Inactivity minutes: choose None or 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 or 120 minutes. In the POS app, a table whose order has not been updated for that long is shown as inactive.
  • Display variations when an item (course, drink, etc.) is added to order: opens the variations window when staff add an item.
  • Skip complete step in checkout to speed up the checkout process: speeds up checkout by skipping the complete step.

The setting is called Inactivity minutes, not a lock. It does not log anyone out. The POS app has a separate lock that starts after an order is saved. See Sign in to the POS app with your staff PIN.

Printers

The printing options for kitchen and bar tickets are in Printing options for kitchen tickets.

Default sales resource

Companies that sell services see Default sales resource instead. Choose a Default resource to start each new sale in the web POS with that person, or No default — always ask. See Take a payment in the web POS.

Admin-only settings

Admin users also see Admin only settings (not for service companies):

  • Enable video recording of user sessions
  • Enable Payment terminal logs (Verifone PSDK only)
  • Enable food feed screen

Audit log

The Audit log tab lists sensitive actions in the POS.

Choose a period

Use the date range picker. The default is the current month.

Filter by event

Choose an Event type: All events, Order deleted, Item deleted or Cash drawer opened.

Open a row

Each row shows the date, event, staff member and a summary. Click the arrow on a row to see details such as the table, the items, the order total and the device.

Click Export CSV to download the log. It includes up to 5000 events.
