Stop selling an item online

Block an item on your online channels when you run out, and show it as unavailable or hide it until you lift the block.

When you run out of an item, you can block it online. Customers can't order it on the web, in apps or on the kiosk. Your POS and Dineout Partner can still sell it. The block is for one location.

Block an item

Open Blocked online

Go to Monitor, then Live orders. Click Settings, then Blocked online. The row shows how many items are blocked.

Click Block an item

Click Block an item.

Find the item

Type at least 2 characters of its name and click the item. You can also block items that only exist as a choice in a variation. They are marked Modifier option only.

Choose how it shows

Under Show online as, choose:

  • Labelled: shown online as unavailable and can't be ordered.
  • Hidden: left out of online menus entirely.

Choose how long

Leave Set an end time off and the block stays until you lift it. Switch it on and pick Blocked until (a time in the future) to let the block end by itself.

Click Block

Click Block. Dineout shows a message that the item is blocked online.

See what the block affects

Before you click Block, Dineout may show a warning, This affects other items:

  • Items that have a required choice with no available option left. Online orders for them will be refused.
  • Bundles that contain the item. These will still be sold.

You can still block the item.

Change or lift a block

In the Blocked online list, each item shows Labelled or Hidden and "Until" a date or "Until lifted".

  • Click Edit block to change how it shows or the end time, then Save.
  • Click Lift block to sell it again. Confirm "Lift block?". Dineout shows that the item is available online again.

A block with an end time stops by itself.
